_Mesalla organization for human resource development with support of UN women and cooperation of UNFPA, started women empowering project since September 20104 in Erbil (city center and shaqlawa district) The project aims to: 1. Economic empowerment of IDPs women in Erbil province 2. Promotion of life hood skills for IDPs women in Erbil province Activities: First: The project started in Erbil city center inside AL_Mesalla’s women spaces (Bahremandan, Razhan, Kasnazan, and Shaqlawa ), more than 80 women were trained on sewing skills in 4 training session each lasted for one month. After accomplishing of training 70 women started clothes sewing, production supervisor in AL_Mesalla said ( sewing machines and all other sewing material were provide by UN women, women dress (Dshdashas) were produced in women centers, 1200 dresses were produced in first month, despite the novelty of the project ). She added that the marketing supervisor for the production process is done by UN Women has sold the production directly to international organizations, as they distributes free for IDPs women and girls in Bahrika camp in Erbil province. IDPs women receive money for their produced materials, one of the women who sew dresses said “{we want to thank AL_Mesalla organization and its partners for train us and providing us with place for sewing and paying us money for our work, this contributed in providing recourse for living and reduced our suffering as IDPs women”. One of the social workers in the Bahremendan women space, said that this project is in addition to be economic empowerment of displaced women, but also provides an opportunity for them to interact with other women to exchange views and concerns, so in one way or another we can call this project psychosocial assistance for displaced women, during our work we provide them psychosocial support and awareness. In the second month of the project, in order to improve production quality and quantity, has been allocated Shaqlawa women center for the production of women's and children's clothing, where the center is equipped with the best shapes and production process has increased dramatically since so far, more than 5,000 women dresses (dshdashas ), and 500 children's clothing is produced. All this product were marketed for international organizations especially UNFPA, as they distribute threw AL_Mesalla and other partners for IDPs pregnant women and girls in camp and non-camps. The project and producing is continued till now. Second: Besides training on sewing and clothes production, the project also focused on the development of life skills among IDPs girls and women in the province of Erbil and Shaqlawa women center. Where to now 4 Kurdish language sessions held for IDPs girls and women, 76 girls and a woman participated in the training, and it lasted for one month and every day for 4 hours. One of the IDPs girl from Salahadeen province, participated in Kurdish language courses, she said “ I got benefit from this training course, I learn to communicate with my neighbors and with others, now I can understand Kurdish very good and I can talk a little, and this is great it was benefit for me, thank you” In addition to language this project provides opportunity for training on computer skills especially MS word, for 40 IDPs girls aged between 15-24 years old. Vocational training of AL_Mesalla organization says (life skills training designed upon the request of IDPs women and girls themselves, where they are asked and we have provided training with the United Nations Development Fund for Women, UNFPA, in the first training which is language where mostly old aged women participated and girls too, but in computer training all are girls not to exceed 24 years of age).
